Strauss, Ravel and More

December 1-2, Centennial Concert Hall

Richard Strauss couldn’t resist a story. In Death and Transfiguration, a dying man, presumably Strauss himself, recalls the artistic ideals he didn’t achieve and as the fatal hour arrives, his soul takes leave. But now, the eternal cosmos presents a magnificent realization of the ideal.


Tours: Bikes and Brunch

Be a true Winnipegger and conquer the winter blues with this tour of downtown’s best brunch spots using a winterized or fat bike! Participants bike to three of downtown Winnipeg’s best brunch spots, receiving a breakfast sample at each stop. There is an option to rent a fat bike, or you can use your own winterized/fat bike.


Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market

December 7 and 21, Cityplace

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ’s popular Farmers’ Market offers fresh and local vegetables and fruits, baking, preserves, meat, cheese, crafts, jewelry, plants and flowers, and other food and artisan items. If you can Make It, Bake It or Grow It, you can find it at our Farmers’ Market.


A Charlie Brown Double Bill: A Charlie Brown Christmas and You’re a Good Man Charlie

December 8, Manitoba Theatre for Young People

Charlie Brown has had a rough year and just cannot get into Christmas. When he is asked to direct the pageant, he is determined to turn things around PLUS everyone’s favourite accident-prone boy tries to muster up the courage to talk to the Little Red-Haired Girl. A musical holiday classic for the entire family!

Since 2008, The Tenors have been thrilling audiences around the world with their powerful songs and outstanding harmonies. Blending classical music and contemporary pop, the award-winning and multi-platinum selling band has achieved international success. The Tenors join the WSO for a very special Christmas concert.


Lara Ciekiewicz, Soprano

December 9 – 10, Eckhardt-Gramatte (University of Winnipeg)

Winnipeg soprano Lara Ciekiewicz is a compelling and dynamic singing-actress. Manitoba Opera and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra have been recent collaborators. Her talent and success were acknowledged locally by the 2015 Winnipeg Arts Council’s RBC “On the Rise Award”.

There’s almost no end to the fun you’ll find on our annual holiday classic show where favourite seasonal music goes hand-in-hand with comedy, storytelling, sing-alongs, plenty of good cheer and of course, a visit from Santa!


Tour: Tap In Beer Tour

December 12, Various Locations

Discover some of the best beers that downtown Winnipeg has to offer. The Tap In Tour includes a walking tour plus beer and appetizer samplings at three to four restaurant stops. Additional drinks and food are extra. Each tour has a unique combination of stop locations that include Carbone Coal Fired Pizza, Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub, Rudy’s Eat & Drink, Shannon’s Irish Pub, Izakaya Edokko and Moxie’s Restaurant and Pub.


Tour: A Moveable Feast Bike Tour

December 15, Various Locations

Enjoy a cycling and restaurant tour in the heart of our City! Tours start at 5:30pm and run to approximately 10pm. Tickets are just $50 a person and include a bike tour and menu samplings at five restaurant stops – beverages are extra. Each tour has a unique combination of stops that may include Café 22, Café Bella, Carbone Coal Fired Pizza, East India Company, Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub, Little Sister Coffee Maker, Oh Doughnuts, Promenade Café & Wine, Shannon’s Irish Pub, Thom Bargen and White Star Diner.

HALLELUJAH! An oratorio of triumph and joy. It was born out of Handel’s struggle to stay at the forefront of 18th century England’s taste for opera. Running short on money, he had no choice but to go the oratorio route, where Handel found enduring success. Messiah is a masterpiece with drama to spare in every page of its score. It feels as fresh today as it did when first premiered in Dublin in 1742. This performance features the debut of the new WSO Chorus and an all-Manitoban cast of soloists.

The Snowman

Back by popular demand, Raymond Briggs’ heartwarming holiday classic film The Snowman has brought our audience to its feet every time it has been performed. The Snowman tells of a little boy who wakes up to find that everything has turned snow-white. He rushes out to build a snowman that comes to life and takes him on an amazing journey. Features the Howard Blake hit song Walking in the Air. Plus, the classic tale of Brother Heinrich’s Christmas.


RWB’s The Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition

This sparkling holiday tradition is a festive feast for the senses with enchanting costumes, timeless choreography and a brilliant score by Tchaikovsky. Nutcracker features endearing Canadian scenes like a snowy pond hockey game and a battle on Parliament Hill. What could be more fun for the family than to join young Clara’s Christmas fantasy, where toys come to life, the Sugar Plum Fairy spreads her magic, mischievous Filbert the Bear steals the Christmas pudding and where Hazel the Polar Bear and her twelve furry polar cubs will surely warm your heart. A holiday classic for the whole family!
