Tree Canada’s Green Futures Award

Tree Canada and FedEx Express Canada announced the winners of their Green Schools, Green Futures Award this past June. This national award was created to recognize and reward Canadian schools for their efforts in the area of environmental sustainability.

The national winner is Herb Campbell Public School, Caledon, Ontario.

The regional winners are:
Atlantic: Riverview High School, Riverview, N.B.
Quebec: École de la Petite Gare, La Prairie, Quebec
Prairies: Beaverlodge School, Winnipeg, Manitoba
B. C.: Edgewater Elementary School, Edgewater, B.C.

“The greening of schoolyards is a key component of the Tree Canada mandate,” said Dorothy Dobbie, Tree Canada Chair. “Trees are a vital part of our community infrastructure.”

Schools wishing to participate in the contest are required to submit an application detailing their green credentials. The application awarded points for: Ecological School Yards, Reducing Waste, Conserving Energy, Being a Caring School, and Eco Education.
